New In: Sainsbury’s 2011 Great British Beer Hunt Beers

I nipped into our local Sainbury’s last Thursday and spotted that most of their 2011 Great British Beer Hunt beers were in stock. At 3-for-£5 I was tempted by a nice, round dozen, and ended up loading my trolley with a selection of light, golden ales:

…and another of darker / stronger ales:

Sainsbury's 2011 Selection - strong / dark beers

Which leaves me with something of a dilemma. Most of these beers are only likely to be on sale for the duration of the in-store phase of the promotion, so I’ll need to get stuck in quick if I’m to go back in time to grab a few more of the best ones. But I’ve still got a fair few St Austell Beers to drink and talk about, not to mention the bulk of those Sharp’s and other assorted beers we brought back from our recent Devon / Cornwall jaunt. Which to try first..?

You know what, some decisions are just too difficult to make without a pint in your hand. If anyone needs me, I’ll be down the pub.

Those Sharp’s and St Austell beers aren’t going anywhere but, as you say, these won’t be around for long. So, we need your urgent guidance on these.

In fact, if you start now, you can have a post up by midnight, and then go straight to A&E for a stomach pump….

As long as I can tell the missus it was your idea when we’re still waiting to be seen at 3 a.m. that’ll do me… :)

start off with the dark ones as If you like any of those you can stock up for winter. (plus I’ve heard the profanity stout is awesome)

I guessed the Profanity might be good when I nipped back yesterday and that’s the one that had already sold out. I’m wishing I’d picked up a few more of those in the first sweep now. Ah, well…

I’ve just opened a bottle of that Fredric’s GB and it is surprisingly dark. It is infinitely preferable to the other alcoholic ginger beers out there which are usually far too sweet but it is a bit underpowered.

Also got a bottle of the Full Bore which, frankly, looks a bit scary.

Ah, now you’re talking my (missus) Jo’s language. She’s made an extensive study of the ginger ales and ginger-alcopops-masquerading-as-ales on the market and she’s promised to help me pen a treatise on the subject at some point.

The Fredric’s is brewed by Robinson’s of Stockport, who already make one of Jo’s favourite varieties – Ginger Tom – but that’s a 6%-er, so she was speculating that maybe this is a Ginger Tom Lite version.

I’ll try to get her to divulge the results of her research on Friday, see if I can get something typed out over the weekend.

And yes, Full Bore does look a bit worrying. I’m looking forward to sampling it on those grounds alone :)
