New Arrivals: the haul from London and York

In my London and York posts I mentioned that I picked up a few choice bottles of ale on my travels. Here’s what I brought back from those far-off, exotic, blessed-with-a-specialist-beer-shop places:

Three from FlyingDog

Picked these three up at Utobeer in Borough Market. I’m a big fan of Flying Dog, having enjoyed pretty much everything of theirs I’ve managed to get my hands on to-date, so a chance to grab these three was just too good to miss.

Sierra Nevada, Hardknott, Stone and Porterhouse

Three more from Utobeer and then a bottle of the good stuff as a souvenir of our evening at The Porterhouse:

Three from DogfishHead and a Victory

These four all came from The Bottle in York. More big, bad American brews…

Some pretty special bottled ales there, I reckon. With what’s in there already, my beer cupboard is nothing less than a treasure trove these days. Mind you, I think I really do have to start drinking some of it though, this hoarding habit of mine is getting a bit ridiculous…

Flying dog are great and its not often you see Double Dog or Wild Dog in the shops.

If you see more Big Foot get it and stick it in the cellar, it ages really well. I’ve got 3 bottles at the back of my cupboard where I’ll try and not drink them until next year.

Oaked Arrogant Bastard is the best version of AB. I’ve had the regular both in a bottle and on tap and a bomber of Double Bastard and the Oaked version still “Rules the School”.

From Victory’s permanat range, Golden Monkey is my least favourite. An average Belgian trippel that dosen’t really stack to the genuine article… stick with St Bernardus or Chimay.

I enjoyed Infa Red, I’ll be interesed to see what you thought.

As for the Dogfish Head beers, those aren’t my favourites I’m afraid. 60 and 90 min are both Ok, but there are many better IPAs around. Raison D’Etre is pretty blah, next time make sure you pick out India Brown Ale and Santo Marron, they are both fantastic.

I too suffer from this beer hoarding habit, today I’m expecting a deliver of 3 Hair of the Dog beers, 2 Southern Tier IPA and a few Dutch brews. Dont know where I’m going to put them in my fit to bursting cupboard.

Hope you will be joining us for the Twissup in Manchester and Huddersfield.

Cheers Rob – will take all that under advisement, certainly. The Bottle did have the Dogfish Head India Brown Ale on the shelf, can’t remember if the Santo Marron was there as well. And I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for more Bigfoot assuming I get on well with this first one. Which, from the sounds of things, is pretty much a dead cert.

And has the Manc/Hudd Twissup been decided, then? To the diary!
