Although based in Denmark, Mikeller beers are brewed in several places. It’s Alright, also known as It’s Alight (same beer, different market, the former name is how it’s labelled in the US), is produced at De Proef Brouwerij in Belgium. Another of the set I was sent by Phil from Beermerchants.com it’s the US version he stocks, presumably an exporting or some such complicated issue.

With the first hiss of gas escaping as the lid of the bottle is prised off I got a strong whiff of berries, which hung about as the pale golden contents were decanted into the glass. The aroma quickly developed, with the berries remaining a dominant feature, mixed in with some floral and grassy notes, and a touch of apple and citrus. The flavour is just as interesting; I picked out blackberry, blueberry, strawberry, melon and apple and to be honest I gave up after that. There’s certainly more flavours in there, but some were unidentifiable to me – I’ve read references made to blue cheese but that’s not something I eat so can’t back up the claims. Finish was slightly grassy, with a vegetative quality, and quite short-lived. All in all an intriguing and interesting beer worth sampling,  but I don’t think it’ll be a regular addition to my beer selection.

Had a bottle of this one last night. Very dry, lots of citrus and with an intensely malty, biscuity after-taste. Lots of berries and apples, definitely. Almost a dry cider, rather than a beer…
