Tasting Notes: Wychwood Osprey

Brewery: Wychwood
Location: Witney, Oxfordshire, England
ABV: 6.5%
Version: 500ml bottle
Source: Sainsburys (exclusive)

As noted above, this is is one of the beers Wychwood brew exclusively for sale in Sainsburys. It’s a mid russet/brown colour with a light malt aroma, backed up with touches of coffee, chocolate and raisins. The flavour is quite malty, fruity but not citrus, a bit of dry toast and a smidgen of liquorice in the backgorund, leading to a dry lingering finish. The alcohol content isn’t overly obvious in either the taste or smell. Once again however, I found the dryness of the finish detracted from the overall taste experience; holding back on that aspect a bit more would produce, for me, a much more balanced and appealing beer.

That’s spooky. I picked up one of these for the first time in about 12 months and drank it at the weekend… used to be one of my regulars (back in the days when I only drank 3 or 4 different beers regularly) but whilst it’s still a decent drop, I think I’d much rather have a bottle of Duchy Originals Select if I was going for something in this sort of strength-range.
