Marston’s EPA Sponsoring a Liverpool Music Fest Stage This Weekend

VMarston's EPA ScreenshotVia a press release from the Marston’s PR people, news that one of the brewer’s brands, Marston’s EPA, will be sponsoring a stage at the Mathew Street Festival – featuring a host of tribute acts – in Liverpool this coming Bank Holiday weekend. There are details of a competition for bands to win chances to perform at next year’s festival, plus the Liverpool Music Festival later this year.

Here’s the release in full:

Marston’s EPA is set to sponsor a stage at a major music festival later this month. The brew will be taking over the iconic Superlambanana stage at Liverpool’s city centre-based Mathew Street Festival on August 28 and 29 – and the brand has launched a competition to find up-and-coming musical talent across the region.

Brand manager Rachel Whillock said: “The Mathew Street Festival is a great event and it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to get EPA out there in front of a like-minded audience around the M62 corridor. We’re sponsoring one of the five music stages, doing some sampling as well as running a competition that we hope will support bands into the future, helping EPA to become a firm fixture in the area.

“The Superlambanana stage is a real win for us because it’s the place where anything can happen – and it usually does. It goes very well with EPA’s strapline ‘not the usual’.”

The stage on Tithebarn Street will have sounds from Canada and Australia and will also reflect Liverpool’s Radical City theme for 2011 with music from Dylan, Sex Pistols and Neil Young tributes.

The competition has now been launched online with bands asked to upload a clip of themselves onto YouTube. The winners will secure a place on next year’s Superlambanana stage as well as the opportunity of gigs around the city. There will be a chance to vote online for favourite bands with the final winner announced in September.

Tasting Notes: Brakspear EPA

brakspear epaBrewery: Brakspear
Location: Witney, England
ABV: 4.2%
Version: 500ml bottle

Part of the Wychwood Brewery in Oxfordshire this is Brakspear’s revival of the popular English Pale Ale. Pouring a golden amber colour, it’s full of fizz but this quickly settles. The light citrusy aroma gives way to a light malty flavour but overall it’s too thin, with a rapidly fading aftertaste resulting in a disappointing finish.
